When Elijah first got sick, he was covered by his college insurance. Not the greatest coverage, but it did cover 80%, which helped, but left the couple with a good amount of debt. After two months of treatment Elijah's insurance reached its max and they were left with some outstanding balances. Mass Health came in and softened the blow quite a bit, but the couple still suffered financially from the loss of Elijah's job due to the illness, and the remaining balances. Now they are covered by the government, and for the next 3 years Elijah will have federal insurance for all kidney related issues. Unfortunately Elijah now has a pre-existing condition so they will have to pay extremely high premiums to maintain insurance for Elijah after the initial 3 years. This fundraiser is helping them prepare for this future expense.

Please note that the Immunosuppressants are drugs which Elijah will have to take for the rest of his life, unless science proves otherwise. The cost of these drugs is about $26,000 a YEAR.
